Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake was a Japanese fashion designer.
He was known for his technology-driven clothing
designs, exhibitions and fragrances, such as
L'eau d'Issey, which became his best-known
product.
I like these pieces as they take one colour and create layered garments with texture, curves and different looks throughout.
Issey Miyake, a Japanese designer now in his 80s, was born in Hiroshima and survived the atomic bomb when he was just 7; a fate that his mother didn't share. He was first inspired by design thanks to 2 bridges near the epicentre of that atomic bomb, and realised he wanted to be a part of that inspiration.
These garments from the "pleats please" collection show how you can create an eye catching garment with just one colour and fabric. I like the idea of creating curves and texture with pleats and layers of fabric.
PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE Launched in 1993, Issey Miyake's iconic diffusion line, PLEATS PLEASE, is famed for its design and wearability. The unique construction process involves a garment first being cut and sewn before being Individually pleated. This process creates shape and texture in an elegant yet functional garment. This practicality stems from Miyake's philosophy of continuing to focus on both the importance of imagination and the development of new technology in clothing.
