Iris Van Herpen
Iris van Herpen is a Dutch fashion designer known for texture fusing technology with traditional haute couture craftsmanship. Van Herpen opened her own label Iris van Herpen in 2007.
I like Van Herpens designs as they capture movement in a still piece and look very abstract for such high-end fashion designs.
Iris Van Herpen creates 3D printed designs such as a skeleton dress when she teamed up with Benthem Crouwel Architects.
Van Herpen is known for her willingness to experiment-exploring new fabrics created by blending steel with silk or iron filings with resin. incorporating unexpected materials ranging from umbrela tines to magnets, and pushing the boundaries of technologies such as 3-D printing.
Iris Van Herpen manipulates fabric in a way that creates garments as if they were architectural pieces. These pieces are exotic with flowing fabric and curves held up with wire and frames to create structure for the garments to hang from. I like the designs she creates as they are abstract pieces yet still feel like textilesgarment constructions.
