Gareth Pugh

Doug Evans

Gareth Pugh is a fashion designer who has received global recognition for both his outlandish club wear and his novel approach to redefining modern luxury. Born in Sunderland he studied on the Art Foundation course at City of Sunderland College and completed his degree in Fashion Design at Central St Martins in 2003.

Pugh takes inspiration from historical references with samurai warriors, gothic romanticism and the Elizabethan era all influencing his designs. Dramatic and often sinister, he offers a sense of theatricality with his designs taking you into a ditterent universe.

I like Pugh's work as it is very much his own style and you could recognise each piece as his as he has his own twists and inspirations that make all his garments their own unique eye catching pieces.

I like Garth Pugh's garment designs and pieces as they take the simplistic white fabrics and layer them up to create designs which catch your eye with abstract curves and lines in. I also like how he has included this hood In the right image as it looks as if the fabric has been placed onto the head and left to drape down rather than it being positioned and put into place giving it a natural feel and flow down the whole piece.
