Final Major Project
For my Final Major Project I think I want to create three streetwear outfits for both genders, one unisex and one for each gender. For the streetwear theme I want to make it somewhat high fashion influenced and exaggerated/over the top.
For my streetwear garments, I want to look into graffiti and the different styles and mark making used within that. I need to research into the different types to develop my idea and focus on how I want to incorporate it into my garments.
My final major project is linking both graffiti and streetwear so I wanted to have a title to link them both into one word and create a tag for my work like a graffiti artist.
First I thought of relating back to the origin of graffiti and the Italian word, “Graffiato” meaning to scratch which represented the carvings and etching used in the past to mark make. This gave me the idea to name my project “Scratch” or an abbreviation of it, however I feel this didn’t link back to the streetwear side of my project so I moved on from this.
After brainstorming multiple different ideas to call my project I finally came up with “Graffikk”.
This links all my words that relate to the two major parts of my final major project being ‘Streetwear’ and ‘Graffiti’.
My tag “Graffikk” comes from the words graffiti, graphic and traffic. This is came about as traffic relates back to my streetwear side of the topic and them being on streets while the graphic part comes from the many graphics seen in streetwear like screen printed T-shirts and hoodies very commonly seen in the style. Graffiti is more self explanatory in the name relating to the art side of my topics.
