Our piece was created to show the word consent in a physical object. This idea of our design shows a foot and hand trying to interlock and this isn't working how hands would interlock therefore showing us that this isn't right. On the backside of our tote bag we have the definition of consent with the key words highlighted to show the true meaning behind our piece.
Our idea started off digitally through digital drawing on Adobe Illustrator on the iPhone. We created this design by combining a foot and a hand to represent the theme of Consent and how a foot and a hand don't fit and also has links to man touching God by Michelangelo. We also then added the definition of Consent into the design for the backside of the bag so that it related back to topic.
Now it was time to make the physical bag, we did this by cutting two identical pieces of fabric and two long strips for the handles on each side. Next we embroidered our foot and hand design using the sewing machine onto one side of our bag. We also heat transferred the definition of Consent onto the other side of our bag giving us our two sides. Then we sewed around the key words in the definition in red thread and sewed both sides together with the handles connected to the top giving us our completed bag ready to be sent off to the gallery to be presented.
