Vladimir Yergrafovich Tatlin was a Russian and Soviet painter, architect and stage-designer. Tatlin achieved fame as the architect who designed The Monument to the Third International, more commonly known as Tatlin’s Tower, which he began in 1919.

Vladimir Tatlin was central to the north of Russian constructivism. He wanted above all to bend art to modern purposes and, ultimately, to tasks suited to the goals of Russia‘s communist revolution.

When Vladimir Tatlin originally designed his Monument to the Third International, it was with the hopeful intention of inspiring the Russian people to joyfully rebuild their society after the carnage and destruction of revolution and war.

I like Vladimir Tatlin‘s artwork and architectural studies as it uses lines and curves throughout with geometric shapes. These allowed him to create pieces which were something of the future and ahead of the time. They also help those of the time imagine the future of buildings even influencing todays architecture and the future to come.
