Richard Malone

Richard Malone is an Irish fashion designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2014. His graduate collection was bought by Brown Thomas Dublin. Malone’s work was included in the Museum of Modern Arts Is Fashion Modern?

His collections have been premised on sustainable sourcing, Fair Trade labor, craft, recycling, and waste reduction from the beginning of his label in 2014. This theme of sustainability is carried throughout his career.

Richard Malone was the winner of the 2020 Woolmark prize on undoing the damage caused by the fashion industry. Designers were required to demonstrate how policies of sustainability and traceability inform their practice, and how such policies would be developed if they were to win. This year’s mission statement was of particular importance to the Woolmark Company, whose native Australia has been ravaged by ferocious bushfires over the past months, and subject to some of the worst droughts on record. His garments created highlighted theses issues and showed how the fashion industry effects the world and how he used the theme of sustainability to battle wastage.

I like Richard Malone’s fashion designs and garments as they show how you can make high end products sustainably saving the environment. His garments are inspirational and I love the looks he’s created throughout his career.
