Nigel Shafran is a photographer and artist. His work has been exhibited at Tate and the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the 1980s Shafran worked as a fashion photographer, before turning to fine art photography. Far from chronicling some mythical, halcyon past, his Teenage Precinct Shoppers comprises a particular, honest and engaging document of a decade wholly unlike our own, yet deeply familiar and, in its own way, as fraught as anything teens (or any of us) face today. Nigel Shafran is a photographer based in London.
These images where from the Teenage Precinct Shoppers collection in 1990. They capture teenagers in their day to day looks in the 90s creating a time capsule of the style of fashion at the time. The effect of these greyscale images capture the emotions of the participating teens and reflect the technology and photography at the time taken. Throughout these photos he captured teenagers of the 90s in black and white images which created a time capsule of the history for the youth at the time.
I like this series of images Nigel created as they capture a time period of peoples lives which are never really a focal point in the world and the black and white images show the expressions and emotions on each individuals face.
