Looking into fabrics and Fibres
Within pattern cutting we were looking into fabrics and fibres.
There are three different types of fabrics : Woven, Knit and Non-Woven. These all have different looks and ways of being made.
I then used an iPhone app called “Magnifier” to take photos of different fabrics and zoom into them to look at the way the fabric is made.
These we’re the fabric samples I used to zoom into.

The use of the “Magnifier” app gave me these results after zooming into them.
You can tell the difference between these fabric types by looking at the way the fabric is made. You can also test them by feeling the fabrics, seeing if you can pull it apart and if the fabric frays or tears. One other way of testing the fabric is doing a burn test. To do a burn test you light a match and put it close to the fabric inside the pot so it catches on fire. Then you need to observe it and see if the fibres shrink away from the flame. Also you can smell the air near the fabric as it is burning smell the odor of the burning fabric. Furthermore, once the flame is gone look at the remnants in the pot to look at what you see and what the residue looks like. Finally you can very gently with a fingertip in order to feel the ashes.
